ALROSA produces first diamonds at Verkhne-Munskoye field

MOSCOW, Dec 28 (PRIME) -- Russian uncut diamond giant ALROSA has produced the first diamonds from the Verkhne-Munskoye deposit in the republic of Yakutia, the company said on Thursday.

ALROSA started moving test batches of ore from the deposit in October. The ore was delivered to the enrichment facility to confirm the diamond content.

The Verkhne-Munskoye deposit is located 170 kilometers from the Udachny mining and processing plant. The development of the deposit is expected until 2041. The start of commercial operation is slated for 2018. Annual production capacity is to reach 3 million tonnes of ore in 2019.
